The roadrunner is the largest member of the cuckoo family and, while it has the capability to fly, it spends most of its time This roadrunner hangs around my home which leads me to believe that meat eater and will hunt for snakes, small rodents and other birds. You can watch it stealthily sneaking up on other birds and, given the opportunity, it will spear another bird in its back with its beak then beat it on a rock. This roadrunner is about 20'' long. On the other end of the scale, humming birds are also frequent visitors to my home. These tiny birds are fascinating to watch because of their capability to hover. They love to take the nectar from flowers but also eat insects and spiders to obtain the protein that they need. |
